The Montessori Method

"The child is endowed with unknown powers, which can guide us to a radiant future. If we want really a new world, then education must take as its aim the development of these hidden possibilities." - Maria Montessori

Macquarie Preparatory School views each child as a motivated doer rather than an empty vessel that needs to be filled in. This approach is anchored on the Montessori Method of Education that is based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood.

The general objectives of our programs are based on the principles of Montessori education and are aimed to:

  • Foster in each child independence and responsibility, self-confidence, and awareness of self, others, community, environment, and the world

  • Nurture a child’s natural desire to learn and explore, and encourage in them concentration and coordination so they can have a sense of order to help them choose, decide, and solve

  • Allow a child to experience things in meaningful contexts so they have a deeper and richer understanding of the things they learn

Macquarie Preparatory School takes pride in its thoughtfully crafted classrooms, activities, and materials designed to meet the needs of children in a specific age range. Learning materials are organized and arranged on low, open shelves within reach of the children. This way, they have the freedom to choose their activities, but still within order and limits.

Children either work in groups or individually. They learn and explore from hands- on activities, rather than by direct instruction. Every material used spark activities that develop and refine a child’s senses. The materials are equipped with a control of error so children have a way to check whether or not they did the activity right. This promotes their independence and problem solving skills. They learn through their own experience at their own pace. They can respond at any moment to their natural curiosities and build a solid foundation for an enduring love of learning.
